Youth Afloat Dragonboat Challenge 2010

A bit about Youth Afloat

The Summer Youth Afloat Program is designed to provide opportunities for children between the ages of 8 and 16 to access water based sports such as sailing, kayaking, windsurfing and canoeing, at an affordable rate. We have a very mixed ability of children coming to the centre during Youth Afloat and cater for everything from beginners, right through to advanced levels. Each day during the five week summer programme, children are able to experience skill training sessions with qualified instructors and work towards achieving nationally recognized qualifications in each of the water sport disciplines.

Once again, the Docklands Sailing and Watersports centre are calling for teams to take part in the 2010 "Youth Afloat" & "Canary Wharf" Dragon Boat Challenges, helping to raise funds for the DSWC Summer Youth Afloat Programme, giving local youth the opportunity to take part in water sports activities during the summer holidays. These events promise to be an exciting evening of action, noise and most of all fun. Dragon Boat Racing is a unique sport – you don’t need any experience to participate, anyone can do it. It caters for all ages, mixed abilities, male and female in one crew. Entrants are welcome to enter more than one team per event - the more the merrier!!

The Youth Afloat Challenge takes place on Tuesday 20th July 2010 at the Docklands Sailing and Watersports Centre from 18h00 onwards, with teams taking part in Dragon Boat Racing, followed by a prize giving, social evening, and a barbeque. Teams number from 10  with the addition of a drummer. Each team is required to pay an entry fee of £300.00, raise a minimum of £200.00 sponsorship and is encouraged to raise additional sponsorship to support their entry.
