Career Summary
Andrew joined Brookes Bell in 2025, having previously worked as a senior marine engineer/consulting surveyor at a global loss adjusting and marine claims consulting firm. He returned ashore in 2018 following a career at sea as an officer in the Merchant Navy, holding a Second Engineer certificate in competency (unlimited) and education to Chief Engineer.
Background
During his time as a surveyor and consulting marine engineer, Andrew has provided marine engineering technical advice worldwide, relating to marine claims involving engineering and repair matters to underwriters, with particular focus on investigating and interpreting the nature, cause and extent of damages to a vessel (deep sea vessels and superyachts) or other maritime property. To assist in average adjusters in acting as impartial intermediaries between vessel owners/managers and their insurers, Andrew provided advice regarding proposed repair options, reasonableness of works effected, reviewing of repair accounts, peril, seaworthiness and due diligence matters. Additionally, Andrew has conducted risk evaluation of ships and ship operators to assist underwriters in understanding the risks covered, both on behalf of hull and cargo interests, and has previously acted as General Average surveyor.
Whilst at sea, Andrew undertook the role as engineering officer of the watch onboard offshore supply, AHTS, cable layers and subsea support/project vessels, gaining logged experience in maintaining vessel dynamic positioning systems, conducting failure mode effect analysis schemes and DP engine room watchkeeping. He is experienced in undertaking planned maintenance and major overhauls of 2-stoke slow speed marine diesel engines onboard container and tanker vessels, medium and high speed marinised 4-stroke diesel engines, auxiliary generators, boiler plant and ancillary machinery.
