Background

After coming ashore Peter spent 3 years as a Marine Cargo Surveyor specialising in Loss Control on Tanker Vessels, Oil Storage Terminals and Refineries before spending 8 years in Ship Management. During his time in Ship Management he initially worked as a Marine Superintendent, later taking up a senior management position working in Quality Health Safety Environment and Security (QHSES). Additional roles held at that time were Company Security Officer (CSO) and Designated Person Ashore (DPA).

British Class 1 Deck Certificate of Competency (Master Mariner). Dangerous Cargo Endorsements (DCE) for Oil, Chemicals and Liquefied Gas.

Previous Employment History

  • Associated Petroleum Consultants Ltd (APC). -  Independent Marine Consultant

While working with APC Peter has been Involved in various Oil, Chemical, Bitumen, Sulphur and Gas Tanker and Terminal Investigations, and has provided reports and expert witness testimony at arbitration hearings in the UK.

  • Bernhard Schulte Ship Management (BSMD) Hamburg, Germany – Deputy QHSES Manager

While with BSMD Peter served for 1 year as a Marine Superintendent for the company’s fleet of Oil, Chemical and Gas Carriers, before he was promoted into the company’s QHSES department as Deputy QHSES manager, which he held for 2 years. He has a broad knowledge of the International Safety Management (ISM) Code and assisted development and maintenance of the company Safety Management System. During his time with BSMD he was involved leading and assisting investigations into a number of accidents and incidents, covering personal injuries, damage to vessels, groundings and stowaways.

  • Oil Bulk Quality Services Ltd, (OBQS), Dubai  - Marine Cargo Surveyor/Safety Officer. As a Marine Cargo Surveyor with OBQS, Peter has led and assisted in Terminal Loss

Prevention Surveys in UAE, Egypt, and Romania, and has carried out numerous voyages on Crude Oil and Product tankers as a Cargo Expeditor. As the Safety Officer he was instrumental in producing the Company Safety Management Systems Manual and HSE procedures, and the company gaining their ISO 9001 accreditation.

  • MOL Tankship Management (Europe) Ltd. - LNG Operations QHSE Superintendent

Peter was recruited by MOL (Europe) as an Operations Superintendent for their fledgling LNG fleet, and to assist the QHSE Manager with the other managed Methanol and Crude Oil Tankers. On joining the company, they were only operating a single 138,262 m3 LNG carrier. The fleet over the next three years increased to three further vessels, which he was fully involved in all aspect of bringing the new vessels into service.

Sea Service

While at sea Peter worked with a number of Tanker Companies, sailing with; Maersk (UK), British Petroleum (BP), Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC), Abu Dhabi National Tankers (ADNATCO), P&O, Denholms, Rowbotham Tankships, with tonnages ranging from 1,000 to 250,000mt DWT. Cargoes carried while at sea, Clean Petroleum Products, Crude and Fuel Oils, Lubricating Oils, Vegetable Oils, Chemicals, LPGs and LNG.
