With 11 years of maritime industry experience, Mark Bloom holds a Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering Systems with a minor in Offshore Engineering. During his time at sea, Mark served on dry cargo and explosive-ordnance vessels, product tankers, ocean-going tugs, subsea cable-repair ships, hospital ships and an expeditionary sea base, where he progressed through every engineering officer rank to Chief Engineer. He later transitioned ashore to supervise the Machinery Department at General Dynamics NASSCO building US Navy fleet replenishment oilers.
Mark has overseen the installation of everything from main propulsion engines to radars and anchor windlasses and is well versed in the latest shipbuilding techniques and engine-room operations. His professional qualifications include Chief Engineer Unlimited Horsepower, Intern Engineer, Person in Charge of Dangerous Liquid Cargo Operations, Electrical Safety for High Voltage Operations, EPA Universal Refrigeration Technician and Advanced Firefighting. These underpin his expertise in root-cause analysis, dry-docking supervision and marine engineering consultancy.
