Coal and related commodities

Managing the many and severe hazards of coal is a multifaceted task, requiring experience, holistic evaluation and a scientific approach. Not only are certain coals liable to self-heat to combustion, some can evolve explosive gases, some have a corrosive component and some are also a liquefaction hazard.

Apart from the multiple hazards, similar to most valuable traded commodities, coal and related commodities such as coke are frequently subject to claims and quality disputes. Evaluating the appropriate sampling and analysis regimes, often intricate, are therefore critical.
