Infestation and fumigation

Shipments involving carriage of agricultural materials by sea are at risk of becoming infested by storage pests. Brookes Bell Scientists are experienced in identifying the source of insect and rodent infestation.
In most cases, cargoes of grain and animal feedstuffs are subject to fumigation on board following completion of loading and the fumigation exposure period continues during some or all of the ocean voyage.
Inappropriate use of fumigants is highly dangerous and Brookes Bell scientists have experience of fires and explosions caused by fumigation materials and deaths caused by inadvertent inhalation of fumigant.
Brookes Bell’s scientists have investigated many claims and incidents relating to cargo infestation fumigation. We can provide industry leading, world-class technical advice on aspects relating to the origin of insects present in cargoes and the safety and efficacy of fumigation of all commodities.
