Mitsubishi Chemical UK Leases Major Facility at Port of Hull

Mitsubishi Chemical UK has confirmed that it will be leasing a substantial unit at the Port of Hull to facilitate the bulk import of chemical cargoes to the UK. The facility - which has 158,000 sq ft of storage space - is located at King George Dock.

The facility also has 53,000 sq ft of canopy, facilitating the effective import and storage of chemical cargoes. Furthermore, the facility is located near the Hull Container Terminal (HCT) and the Hull Docks Branch Line - streamlining onward cargo movements and inland distribution.

Commenting on the leasing of the facility to Mitsubishi Chemical UK, Andrew Dawes, Regional Director of Humber Ports, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Mitsubishi Chemical UK to our site and to support them as they continue to expand their operations. This partnership reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering business growth and delivering flexible, high-quality industrial spaces that meet the evolving needs of our customers”.

Greg Lacey, Head of Property at Humber Ports, added:

“Leasing port-based warehousing units offers a strategic advantage for major projects, providing immediate proximity to key logistics networks and reducing transportation time and costs.

These facilities enable businesses to streamline operations, enhance supply chain efficiency, and respond swiftly to project demands. We are proud to support our customers with flexible, well-located infrastructure that underpins their success and drives long-term growth”.

The new facility will be used to support Mitsubishi Chemical UK’s Saltend Chemicals Park which is producing ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH) resin - SoarnoL™ - a barrier polymer for food packaging.

Michael Curtis, the Lead Construction Delivery Manager at Mitsubishi Chemical Group, commented on the new facility, saying:

“Leasing the new shed at the Port of Hull marks a pivotal step in our long-term commitment to Hull, Saltend, and the wider Humber region. This expansion not only supports the doubling of our production capacity but also strengthens our ability to meet global demand. It’s a strategic investment that aligns with our growth ambitions and reinforces our role in the region’s industrial future”.

Mitsubishi Chemical UK currently operates several divisions across the UK, including; methacrylates, electrolyte, SoarnoL (EVOH), and speciality polymers and resins.
