Background
Following his seagoing career, Hisyam transitioned ashore as a Marine Superintendent, serving as Deputy DPA and CSO for a fleet of MPVs and bulk carriers. His responsibilities included regulatory and compliance management, preparing vessels for class surveys, external audits, and PSC/FSC inspections. He conducted ISM/ISPS/MLC internal audits, investigating fleet accidents, crew injuries, fire incidents, and cargo damage claims, and carried out environmental compliance inspections.
Hisyam also served as an Adjunct Lecturer at the Singapore Maritime Academy, Singapore Polytechnic, teaching Navigation and Occupational Safety modules for the Diploma in Nautical Studies and Chief Mate Special Limit courses in accordance with STCW.
Before joining Brookes Bell, Hisyam worked as a Stowage Advisor and Port Captain, providing guidance on cargo intake planning, stowage, lashing, and securing. He is familiar with lifting and rigging plans, dunnage arrangements, lashing calculations, and method statements for complex cargo operations.
Since joining Brookes Bell, Hisyam has undertaken a variety of surveys and opinion‑based assignments, which are listed at the end of this CV. He specialises in dry cargo matters, including cargo stowage and securing assessments, cargo shifting and collapse, lashing failure, cargo ventilation, and heat and wet cargo damage. He has also provided expert reports on COVID‑19 matters, drawing on his practical experience as Master during the pandemic.
Hisyam has provided expert opinion and acted as an expert witness, giving oral evidence in arbitration proceedings in the UK.
Hisyam has attended several salvage operations involving fire incidents on container and Ro‑Ro vessels, including conducting cargo condition surveys for damaged vehicles and overseeing a BIMCO WRECKHIRE 2010 on‑site operation, which involved towing and loading a distressed container vessel onto a heavy‑lift vessel.
Hisyam has also conducted detailed hatch cover surveys on bulk carriers and is a certified operator of the Cygnus Ultrasonic Hatch Leak Detector.

He prepared lifting and rigging plans, lashing calculations, and method statements for cargo operations, and conducted Project Induction Safety Training for major projects for the local operations team.
