A coalition of tech companies - consisting of NEURA Robotics, HD Hyundai Robotics, and HD Hyundai Samho - is set to jointly develop and test specialised quadruped and humanoid robots for use in the shipbuilding industry.
The collaboration between the three companies marks a major step forward for automation within the shipbuilding industry, and will see robots tested in real-world conditions, with ‘a focus on validating their potential to increase efficiency, safety, and productivity’.
The development of ‘shipyard humanoids’ comes at a time of growing labour shortages across the industry.
The three companies involved in the partnership will undertake distinct tasks:
Commenting on the partnership and the development of robotic solutions, David Reger, Founder and CEO of NEURA Robotics, said:
“This strategic partnership once again demonstrates the versatility of cognitive robots - even in one of the most demanding industrial environments in the world. Together with Hyundai, we are laying the groundwork for entirely new paths in intelligent automation”.
Younghoon Song, Executive Director of HD Hyundai Robotics, added:
“This agreement promotes diverse technological collaborations and highlights our leadership in developing robot-based automation solutions for shipyards. Our goal is to contribute to the long-term competitiveness of the shipbuilding industry”.
The agreement between the three companies was signed in June during a meeting in Munich.
