Cunard’s Four Queens to Unite on the Mersey

Renowned shipping line and cruise company Cunard has announced that all four of its ocean liners will assemble on the River Mersey in May 2028, marking the first time the complete fleet has gathered in a single location.
The event will see the Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth, Queen Victoria, and Queen Anne converge on Liverpool - the city where Cunard was founded in 1840 and which the company regards as its spiritual home.
The last occasion on which Cunard vessels assembled on the Mersey was in 2015, when the Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth, and Queen Victoria marked the company’s 175th anniversary. The 2028 event will go further, bringing together the full quartet of vessels for the first time.
The event will also mark Queen Mary 2’s first transatlantic crossing from New York to Liverpool. The last Cunard ocean liner to complete that specific voyage was the RMS Sylvania in 1966, making the 2028 passage a significant moment in the company’s Atlantic heritage.
The timing of the event is also deliberate. May 2028 coincides with the celebrations marking 20 years since Liverpool was named European Capital of Culture, and the city has signalled its intention to build a wider programme of events around the occasion.
City Council leader Liam Robinson, commented on the forthcoming coming visit of the ‘four queens’, saying:
“Welcoming the four Cunard Queens at the same time will be an extraordinary occasion. We are incredibly proud of our rich maritime heritage and this promises to be a really special moment”.
Cunard said bringing the four ships together will be, “a celebration of the bond between the company and the city where it all began”.
