Rolls-Royce switches to HVO for vessel engine testing

Rolls‑Royce has switched mtu diesel engine testing in Germany to HVO, cutting CO₂ by ~3,200 tonnes by end‑2025 without engine modifications, while also reducing particulates and NOx.

FuelEU Maritime: the next deadline and what it means for shipowners

FuelEU Maritime (from January 2025) tightens greenhouse gas intensity limits for fuels used by ships in EU and EEA waters, with annual reporting due by 31 January and compliance balance approval by 30 April. From 30 June 2026, ships must carry a valid Document of Compliance to avoid penalties, and shore power connection requirements will follow from 2030 and 2035.

Port of Houston completes first ship-to-ship methanol bunkering in the United States

The Port of Houston has completed the first ship-to-ship methanol bunkering operation in the US. On 30 March 2026, Maersk’s dual-fuel Tangier Maersk received 2,000MT of methanol from the tank barge Kirby 29067, supplied by Methanex, under US Coast Guard monitoring. The milestone followed four months of planning and highlights Houston’s growing role as a methanol bunkering hub as shipping shifts toward lower-emission fuels.
