Career Summary
Giles Wordley is a marine and mechanical engineer who holds a First Class Certificate of Competency (Motor) and an MEng in Mechanical Engineering. He joined Brookes Bell in 2021.
Background
Giles has 16 years seagoing experience on board various vessel types. He began his career in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, sailing on a range of vessels including Tankers and Fleet Replenishment ships. During this time he was involved with naval operations and exercises around the world.
Giles then moved to P&O Cruises, working in the Cruise industry for several years gaining experience of large scale High Voltage Diesel Electric systems. He then moved to the offshore sector, sailing onboard Dynamic Positioning (DP) Platform Supply Vessels in the North Sea.
Following his time offshore Giles moved to Superyachts and worked onboard several large yachts, one of which as part of the build team on a 100m+ vessel, and was involved in the quality control and commissioning of the main propulsion, power generation and hotel services before conducting sea trials and working onboard once operational.
During his time at sea Giles has been involved in numerous drydock and refit periods as well as sea trials and the commissioning of new installations. He has gained a broad knowledge and understanding of propulsion and power generation systems including slow and medium-speed diesel engines as well as diesel-electric and high voltage arrangements, and has gained experience of auxiliary shipboard systems including fuel and lubricating oil transfer and treatment, hotel services, cargo pumping arrangements and hydraulic systems.
